On the 23rd of May, 2015, Evans Ufeli convened a Town Hall Meeting with a few indigenes of Etua at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos where he presented a project called “The Etua Journal”  to the group of people.  This project is geared towards publishing an annual journal to showcase in print, Etua’s rich cultural heritage and history; a journal that will tell the story of a people’s prodigious quest for global significance. This mantra is intended to rest as a formidable testament for the prognosis of cultural exposition in the land. Etua is a town in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State. The ancient town boasts a unique cultural history sealed with socio-economic values, touristic sites and a heritage of entrenched bravery. “The journal will be published every year in volumes to herald a new order, set an agenda for the prospect of peaceful co-existence that will raise the intellectual consciousness of our people, enlighten the incoming generation of the exploits and challenges of the previous one, make positive projections to maximize the opportunities in the ecosystem and sensitize the indigenes of the native economy for the creation of wealth,” Evans Ufeli said. He called on every indigene of Etua to send in articles which are centred on the life, customs, culture, tradition, politics and history of the Etua people. He told the people that a website and an e-mail address will be put up for this purpose in due course. Evans concluded by saying, “every society must develop its own stories and harness its prevalent cultural and economic fortune into a brand assessment that will cause the ecological order to support the peoples’ aspirations and cause same to find bearing on their visceral ambit of productivity. Ultimately, society must be made to strive on the threshold of ethics in policy formulation and this is the idea behind this project”. The Etua story is fascinating and the world needs to hear it through various ethoses and medium – books, movies, festivals, tourism etc. For sponsorship and adverts you can call: 08037712353, 08026644738.           About the Writer: Evans Ufeli is a lawyer and the author of acclaimed novel, ‘Without Face’.
