The Nigerian forward and Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi had no playing time at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night as Arsenal thrashed Bate Borisov 6-0 in their final Europa League group game.
Bate started off really bright in good form, but a goal from Arsenal’s Debuchy in 10th minute started off Arsenal’s goal reign.
Arsenal took control of the game and completely dominated the pitch in the following minutes. In the 35th minute, Arsenal has already completed 258 passes to Bate’s 61.
In the 37th minute, Theo Walcott put in a second goal for the Gunners.
In the 43rd minute, Arsenal were 3 goals up as Wilshere scored his first goal in two and a half years after performing a neat trick and shot the ball with his left foot right across Bate’s keeper.
6 minutes into the second half, Arsenal had another goal to their name from an own goal by Polyakov.
A penalty from Giroud and a clean goal from Elneny completes Arsenal’s six goals ending Bate Borisov’s hopes of progress in the Europa League.
The Gunners finished top of their group with 13 points.
In another Europa League game, Nigerian-born England youth international Ademola Lookman bagged a brace for Everton in their 3-0 win against Apollon Limassol.
Everton is already out of contention in the UEFA Europa League group E with 4 points in 6 matches before their final game.
At the Yaakov Turner Toto Stadium, Super Eagles forward Anthony Nwakeme also had no play time for his Israeli team Hapoel Be’er Sheva as they crashed out of the competition following a 2-0 defeat against Czech Republic club Victoria Plzen.
Former Nigeria junior international Alhaji Gero played for 46 minutes as his Swedish club Ostersunds made it to the round of 32 courtesy of a 1-1 draw against Hertha Berlin.
