In an interesting turn of events, the tech corner of the auto industry has had a bit of a reel in these past few weeks. First, Etop Ikpe, erstwhile CEO and MD at Konga.com, then Deal Dey and until two weeks or so ago honcho at Cars45, left the company for unknown causes. Moreso, a total of eleven top executives were also let go by the company following that episode.

The message that followed from the Cars45 management was not conciliatory, at all. In fact, it said that there was a lot of bad blood leading up to that moment when the company put forward a statement. It has since been redacted. Cars45 has been around since 2016 and has since raised $5 million and become a force in the auto industry in direct competition with Cheki coincidentally where it seems Ikpe is now going to work with. Etop Ikpe has since been hired at a new auto outfit by the Autochek, a self-styled all round automobile solution for Africa. The company’s website says the outfit is yet to launch but Techpoint reports that the company would be launching on October 1st this year.

Interestingly, Autochek has gone on to make a big acquisition in the meantime. Autochek has now acquired Cheki.com’s operations in Nigeria and Ghana from Ringier One Africa Media (ROAM). The other operations outside West Africa stay within West Africa. Cheki is the oldest platform in its class having opened operations in 2010. In 2017, Ringier One Africa Media (ROAM) acquired majority stakes in the business. It remains to be seen if there will be a name change for Cheki.com but it has clearly entered the next phase of its development. Source: Techpoint Featured Image Source: Nairametrics
