Nigerian athlete, Ese Brume, made history on the night of Sunday, October 6, 2019 after she won bronze in the long jump event at the World Championships in Athletics, Doha.
Ese, 23, leapt a distance of 6.91m to emerge as only the second Nigerian to make the podium at the event after Blessing Okagbare, who leapt a distance of 6.99m to win silver in 2013. Also, Ese’s feat has placed her as the third Nigerian after, Chioma Ajunwa and Okagbare, to make it to the final of the long jump event at the Athletics championship.
The Nigerian finished third behind second-placed USA’s Kenyattia Hackworth (6.92m), and first-placed Germany’s Malaika Mihambo (7.30m). Ese opened Sunday’s event  with a 6.83m, and her 6.91m jump is her second longest career jump.
Brume ended Nigeria’s wait for an IAAF World Championships medal after two failed attempts in Beijing, China, in 2015 and London, Great Britain in 2017.
