Aba based football club, Enyimba defeated Warri Wolves yesterday in the finals of the 2013 Nigerian Federations Cup finals, triumphing 5-4 on penalties to lift the prestigious cup.
The game ended 2-2 in regulation and went straight to penalty shoot-outs to determine the winners.
Musa Najere broke the deadlock for Warri Wolves in the 23rd minute after good work from Super Eagles defender, Azubuike Egwueke who controlled a corner kick and setup Najere to score from close range.
A horrendous piece of defending from Warri Wolves paved the way for an Enyimba equaliser. A poor clearance fell to Bright Esieme who made no mistake to make it 1-1.
Wolves went ahead after Joseph Osadiaye tapped in a rebound as Enyimba’s goalkeeper could only parry a shot.
Ugwu Uwadiegwu sent the game to penalties in the 82nd minute, curling an astute free-kick over the Wolves’ wall to level 2-2.
The game went to penalties and Azubuike Egwueke went from hero to villain, missing his spot kick to hand Enyimba their third Federations Cup.
