Enyimba won a record seventh Nigerian Premier League (NPL) title after holding Warri Wolves to a goalless draw at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba yesterday.
The match was dubbed a potential title decider, with Enyimba searching for just a point in their final home game against closest rivals, Wolves and they did just that.
The People’s Elephants wins the championship with one round of match left to play but are five points ahead of second-placed Wolves.
Enyimba were forced to double their efforts in the game after Nigeria U23 forward, Daniel Etor was sent off for punching Gbolahan Salami five minutes after the restart but held on for the important draw.
This win sees Enyimba record their first NPL title in five years and a seventh title in total, surpassing Rangers International of Enugu’s record of six NPL titles.
Warri Wolves are expected to end the season as runners-up to join Enyimba as Nigeria’s representatives at next year’s CAF Champions League.
