Nigerian league champions, Enyimba FC of Aba and Enugu Rangers, are set to miss the opening weekend of the Nigeria Professional Football League due to their continental fixtures.

The People’s Elephant and the Flying Antelopes are both in the play-off round of the CAF Confederations Cup, and their second-leg games are scheduled to hold on November 3, 2019, the same date the NPFL is slated to fully commence.

The outcome of the Nigerian league fixtures, which was made public on the night of Monday, October 14, 2019, shows that the Usman Abd’allah tutored side (Enyimba) are meant to commence their title defense against Nassarawa United, but the Aba-based club will be taking on their South African opponents on the same weekend the best league in Africa is commencing.

On the other hand, the Rangers, who are supposed to confront Sunshine Stars on the opening weekend, willd be busy with their second-leg tie against ASC Kara of Togo. The Enugu-based club will play host to the Togolese side on November 3, 2019, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. It will be recalled that while the People’s Elephants finished the 2018/2019 NPFL season as champions, the Flying Antelopes placed third to book their continental ticket.
