The former Super Eagles skipper has been missing in action for the Eagles after a fall out between him and the then coach which led him to voluntarily retire from the Nigerian national team. Vincent Enyeama left the Super Eagles in October 2015 and has since then not featured for Nigeria in any tournament game or friendly. Due to the problem ailing the Nigerian goal side, with Carl Ikeme still receiving treatment, the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has contacted the former Super Eagles goalie for a possible come back to the team. According to a report by Complete Sports Nigeria, Enyeama has given a reply with conditions to Gernot Rohr and the Nigerian Football Federation, stating that he would only make a return to the team if he is 100% fit and in good form for the Russia 2018 World Cup. The goalie wouldn’t want to go to the world cup and make a mess of things for Nigeria and Nigerians counting on him so he would only come back to play for the Nigerian men’s senior national team if he feels fit and good enough to be the first choice goalkeeper for the World Cup next year. “Vincent is working hard to regain his fitness and form before giving his final answer to Rohr on his likely recall to the Super Eagles. He wants to merit his recall and not rejoin the team based on emergency. He has resumed training after undergoing surgery and may probably return to action with a new club,” the NFF source told Complete Sports. “The former Super Eagles skipper has told Rohr to watch his recovery and invite him only if he is fit and good for a return. He insisted that he would not return to the national team if he is not convinced that he is ready for the World Cup and will help the team.” Rohr is determined to take Nigeria into the finals in Russia, and for that, he needs the best men on ground. Enyeama has prior experience, more than any other Nigerian goalkeeper and will make a very valuable addition to the team in Russia. At the moment, the Super Eagles favorite goalie Carl Ikeme’s return would definitely ease the stress on the Nigerian goal side, but until then Enyeama is Nigeria’s best bet for next year.
