Employee motivation is what drives productivity in the workplace. If employees are not motivated but grumble through work, they become unproductive and unfulfilled. Some people are just working for the paycheck, not because they have any sort of passion for the job they do.  An employee who drags their feet, sits around the office or probably stays on their phone all day, is definitely unmotivated. This doesn’t only imply that you will be wasting recourses keeping such as person, their actions will tend to affect the others. They become a bad influence to others. Some even go to the extent of making derogatory remarks about the company, showing how dissatisfied they are working there.  This unhealthy for business, as it is only the positively motivated employees that can drive results. Make your employees understand the business model, so much that they can interpret it in their subconscious. Some entrepreneurs make the mistake of bearing the company vision alone.

This is not right, as employees will feel relegated to the background. They need to understand the company vision, mission, aims and objectives. Make them understand the “why” of your business. The same way you want your customers to understand why they should buy from you. make your employees understand why they should work for you.  Some employers of labor feel the employees need them to pay bills. Although, this is true to an extent, but you need to keep them motivated. It is even for your own good. They work motivated, drive results and all parties are happy. Make room for rewards, incentives and commissions/bonuses for work well-done. This is a huge encouragement in the workplace. When people are recognized for the good work they have done, and are handsomely rewarded, they are often pushed to do even better the next time. Don’t confuse your employees with numerous tasks. Be as specific as possible. Show that you are coordinated and in control of whatever happens. Assign duties based on the company goals.

To help you, break down these company goals into smaller targets and timelines for achievement. This simplifies the process, and they are not lost as to what they should do.  Teamwork does not mean that team members will be found chatting away amongst themselves during work hours. It implies that there is cooperation and synergy among team members to ensure tasks are carried out as and when due. This is very crucial in every company. Encourage your employees to take courses and attend industry trainings that will broaden their horizon. This helps them grow as individuals, contribute reasonably to the company and assures them of the fact that you are also interested in their growth. Support your employees as much as you can. At some points, they may be going through burn outs and personal challenges. Don’t be all about work.
