The Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro has commended Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola for Lagos State Government’s responsiveness and collaboration with the Federal Government in tackling the Ebola outbreak since it was first reported in July in Lagos, Nigeria.
Senator Obanikoro who spoke in a statement signed by his media aid, Ohimai Amanze, also hailed the commitment of the Federal Government in fighting the Ebola scourge.
“I express strong faith in the ability of Lagos State Government and the Federal Government to work together in containing Ebola and giving Lagosians in particular and Nigerians in general the hope of an Ebola-free society.
“President Goodluck Jonathan’s 1.9 billion naira Ebola intervention fund coupled with Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council approval of the sum of 200 million naira to support efforts by Lagos State Government in containing the Ebola Virus Disease has helped with progression”, Senator Obanikoro said.
Obanikoro also sympathise with the families of the victims of the virus especially late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the senior consultant endocrinologist who became infected with the virus after treating Mr Patrick Sawyer, who imported the virus to Nigeria.
“I offer my profound sympathy to the families of those who fell to the Ebola Virus Disease especially the medical personnel who paid the supreme price fighting to keep infected victims alive.
At a time like this when our shared humanity as Nigerians is faced with the challenge of the Ebola scourge, Senator Obanikoro expresses strong faith in the ability of Lagos State Government and the Federal Government to work together in containing Ebola and giving Lagosians in particular and Nigerians in general the hope of an Ebola free society.
Nigeria had recorded 12 cases; 5 dead, 5 discharged & 2 being treated.
