Nigeria’s U-17 football team, the Golden Eaglets, on Wednesday defeated Angola 1-0 to qualify for the semi-finals in the ongoing U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

With the win, Nigeria has also qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, scheduled to take centre stage in Brazil from Tuesday, September 17, 2019 to Tuesday October 8, 2019.

Nigeria Vs Angola

The Eaglets effortlessly overwhelmed their Angolan counterparts in the blistering encounter that saw both sides put in great effort to usurp control of the game.

A 21st minute penalty was well taken by Olakunle Olusegun, who sent the Angolan goaltender diving the other way and gave Nigeria a well deserved first half lead.

The Nigerian boys pressured the Angolans to double the lead before half time, but they were hugely unsuccessful with five missed goal opportunities.

Into the restart, the Angolans came within inches of leveling the scores, but their hopes were dashed when defender Cabingano was dealt a red card for a second bookable offense.

The Angolan team was clearly rattled and outmanned to defend against the ruthless Eaglets, who at this point had grown in confidence.

The Eaglets mounted pressure on the Angolan side of the field, but still could not make good on any of their chances until the final whistle.

Five-time champions of the U-17 AFCON, Nigeria, will face Uganda in their final group game on Friday, 19th April.
