The weekend is around the corner once again, and Friday night activities are about to kick off but you’ve found yourself in a knot trying to figure out what to do – or probably decided on just staying home. Well, this Friday is going to be popping, so if you’re a lover of movies – or you love going to cinemas, then get the clothes and shoes ready because your weekend is about to start with an unforgettable experience after a hectic week. Theatre arts is not very popular on this side of the world (presumably), notwithstanding, it is making a come-back gradually. To be honest watching a live act is intriguing and entertaining, as the story is expressed in an exhilarating form. The performers, present the play/or communicate the act to the audience by blending it with music, dance, speech, gestures etc. The stage is painted with sceneries and the lightning which are typically exquisite are used to enhance the physicality, presence and immediacy of the experience. It’s such a beautiful craft. A special theatre performance is coming to Lagos this weekend with a play titled; Finding Adaora. The play, written by Roli Ukwu and Segun Michaels, is about a conflicted Caribbean woman who comes to Nigeria in search of identity, only to find that skin colour is not the first or most important classification of human affinity. Her unique encounters at the hands of her Nigerian driver, Udoka, and his spurious side-kick, Emem, force her to rethink her values and the meaning of being African. When she chooses to change her name and adopt Nigeria as her home, she gets more than she bargained for! This new Nigerian writing shines a light on the importance of unity within our inter-ethnic relations as well as the strength of our ‘Nigerianness’. The play will be showing on Friday 6th October 2017 by 6 pm (VIP tickets – 10,000), with two special performances and on Saturday 7th October 2017 at 3 pm and 6 pm (tickets 3’500). From 2 Masks and Griot theatre company, ‘Finding Adaora’ is a play of modern black realities will light up the stage at Muson centre.
