Now, let me take the initiative to say a Happy New Year. Now, this New Year, we decided to add a new column to the lineup of weekly pieces and it’s one we hope you find instrumental, going forward. It is called DIY as in “do it yourself”.

Many of our readers probably do have white-collar jobs and would rather not do many things by themselves as it would require time that they cannot spare. Either that or they just don’t have the requisite skills. So DIY  is all about letting you know that there’s a lot more you could do for yourself hence saving you money and boosting your self-esteem (I hear women like handymen so there are points up for grabs here). But these tips are, by no means, gender-specific. Today’s DIY has to do with getting clear skin. Now, I did something akin to this before that was specifically for men. This piece is specifically for… everyone with a face and skin. And no, it won’t require you breaking the bank to procure the materials or apply. Let’s get into it.

Yoghurt

Yoghurt is usually something you drink or keep in your fridge so you can drink another time. But it has properties that avail to other uses too. Yoghurt is an understated skin treatment agent with particular respect to pimples especially as it contains vitamin D and probiotics. Apply natural yoghurt to your pimples and leave for at least 30 minutes. Make sure to use only natural yoghurt and not the flavoured ones.

Honey, Oatmeal And Lemon

Apparently, oatmeal excels as an exfoliating agent and a great way to rid of blemishes, as well as a natural oil absorber, all apart from being a great option for breakfast. Now, lemon is great for removing blackheads and brightening your skin naturally. Honey works as the binding agent for the two. The combination of all three makes for a potent and natural exfoliant and anti-inflammatory skin brightener.

Blend a few drops of honey as well as a few teaspoons of oats and a few squeezes of lemon in a bowl and then apply all over your face and pay special attention to parts of your face that are prone to blackhead like the nose for instance. Let the resultant mask sit in for a good few minutes and then wash off. It works.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is very well known as a skin cleansing agent so it needs no introduction. That said, it works well for fighting pimples and even as a moisturizer. Just apply the substance to an affected portion of your face. You could conversely swap out your chemical-laced moisturizer for aloe vera.

Rosewater And Lemon Juice

This combo works well for removing dead skin. Mix both in moderate proportions and then apply all over your skin. Let it sit in for upwards of thirty minutes and then wash off with warm water.

Tumeric And Olive Oil

My older sister once used this on herself and just couldn’t get over how bright she looked after it. I hardly knew what it was for. Frankly outside my research for this article, I would not know it was a good natural ingredient for skin toning. Now, I know that term is a problematic one these days because it’s associated with “bleaching”. Regardless, Tumeric works for skin toning, especially when tampered with olive oil. This is because Tumeric is bright yellow and olive oil works as a thickener for the substance. Now you would be well advised to make the mix more oily than pasty while ensuring the bright yellow stays visible too. Apply to the skin and leave to sit in for 10 to 15 minutes as a mask. Then wash off with warm water. So, there you have it, guys. Meet me here again for more DIY’s next week. In the meantime, share and leave your comments too. They mean a lot to us.
