Nigeria is blessed with many natural attractions that can draw tourists. If capitalised on, it could make tourism very important to our economy.
We have lots of waterfalls, mountain ranges, beach fronts, rocks, rivers, caves, desert plains and wetlands. While we have points where rivers of different colours and temperatures do not mix, we also have the only suspended lake in Africa. These attractions are well distributed around the country.

Today, we will be taking a look at the famous and not so famous rocks in Nigeria. These locations are excellent for getting panoramic views, hiking, climbing, and for academic research.
Rocks are a naturally occurring solid mass or an aggregate of minerals or mineraloid matter which project above the earth’s surface or out of the sea. It may not be as high as a mountain, and is sometimes referred to as a hill.
Nigeria is known for the following rocks:
Olumo Rock
This 137m tall popular tourist attraction is located in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Zuma Rock
The popular Zuma is a 725 meter tall monolith. An image of it is found on the N100 note. The rock is located off Madala, in Niger State.
Aso Rock
This 400m granitic monolith houses the Nigerian Presidential Complex located in the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.
Riyom Rock
This is located in Riyom, Plateau state.
Wase Rock
This 350m dome-like rock is a bird sanctuary for breeding ross white pelicans. It is found in Plateau State.
Besides these, there are many hills and rocks all over the country. These include Idanre Hills in Ondo State; Kufena Hills in Zaria, Kaduna; Kazaure Hill in Jigawa; Shuwe Hill in Gombe, and Rock Gibadi in Sokoto.
Nevertheless, for the most rock formations to see at a go, Plateau and Gombe states are worth visiting for the best views.
