A decathlon bronze medalist at the 2018 Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Championships, Samuel Osadolor, has decried the negligence of decathletes and the game by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.
In a telephone conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria, Osadolor blamed Nigeria’s poor representation at international events on the lack of national opportunities for decathletes to prove themselves.
The decathlon is a mixed event in
athletics consisting of ten track and field events, which usually include 100 meters sprint, long jump, shot-put, high jump, 400 meters, 110 meters hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1,500 meters. The winners are determined by their combined performances in all the events.
“I wish we are being heard and catered for at home. I also wish that we are given more opportunities to express our love for the sport.
“IAAF has events going on round the year apart from the Diamond league. The world combines events and there are challenges too. I wish to participate in that and any other events to widen my horizon and also encourage the up-and-coming athletes that they too can do much more than me, no matter where they are from.”

The Edo-born athlete went on to state that though the 2017/2018 season did not pan out as he had hoped, he has no regrets, instead he is training more to make next season a very memorable one for himself and the country.
