On Saturday, 18th July, 2015, Dbanj won the maiden MAMA Evolution award, and he dedicated the prestigious prize to his former business partner and producer, Don Jazzy, who is now the boss of Mavin Records. The Evolution category celebrates established artistes who have made a huge impact on the African music scene; taken African music to new heights around the world and pushed the boundaries of creativity. D’Banj beat fellow Nigerian representatives: Asa, Psquare and 2face to to win the award. Fally Ipupa (DRC), Samini (Ghana), HHP (South Africa) Chameleone (Uganda), Black Coffee (South Africa) and Anselmo Ralph (Angola) were also nominated but lost out to the “Koko Master”. Click here to see the full list of winners. It will be recalled that the musical marriage between D’Banj and Don Jazzy ended on a sour note in 2012. His dedication of the award to Don Jazzy has gotten fans of both artistes excited and curious about the possibility of a reconciliation. As usual, they took to Twitter to share their opinions.
