The Chairman, National Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, Aliko Dangote announces that its committee had donated N250 million to relief assistance to the victims of the devastating flood in Benue, Nigeria. The committee which establishment was approved by the erstwhile president of the country, Former President Good luck Jonathan, is concerned in raising funds in support of Government’s efforts to provide urgent relief for floods victim across the country. The Chairman asserts that the provision was a response to the request made by the Benue State Government. He, Dangote furthermore declared the approval of the release of one of its completed Internally Displaced Person’s (IDP) Hostels in the state as a temporary shelter for the affected individuals. Asides from the donations to Benue State, Dangote added that his committee has also donated N150 million to the relief to the flood victims in Anambra. According to Punch Nigeria, Dangote, in a statement made by Mr. Sunday Esan, of the Corporate Communication Department of Dangote Group, that the committee had released N118 million to the National Emergency Management Authority to augment the N1.6 billion released by the Federal Government for the procurement of food and nonfood materials to the sixteen states affected by floods. He added that the committee was currently implementing various projects in the 24 states affected by 2012 nationwide floods. This is to aid benefiting states to better handle future emergencies including flooding
