The 2026 cycle of the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Program for Master’s and PhD studies is currently accepting applications. This initiative is designed to strengthen internationally competitive higher education systems across Sub-Saharan Africa that can drive sustainable development. Scholarships are awarded for development-focused Master’s or doctoral programs to candidates intending to build careers in academia—specifically teaching and/or research—at higher education institutions within Sub-Saharan Africa.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be graduates or postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa holding a Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s applicants) or a Master’s degree (for PhD applicants) who wish to pursue their studies either in their home country or country of legal residence (In-Country scholarships), or in a different Sub-Saharan African nation where they are not residents (In-Region scholarships).
- The program particularly welcomes applications from women and individuals from underrepresented regions or communities.

Scholarship Duration
Scholarships cover the standard program length—typically up to two years for Master’s degrees and up to three years for doctoral programs.
Scholarship Benefits

- Monthly stipend.
- Allowance for study and research expenses.
- Support for thesis publication.
- Coverage of tuition fees.
