For the first time since the tournament began, after two sequent wins against Cote d’ Ivoire and Mali, the Nigerian senior men’s basketball team D’ Tigers on Sunday suffered a defeat to DR Congo; maybe the third time isn’t always the charm.
After winning the first two-quarters of the game; 20-19, and 17-15 to end the first half with 37-34 points lead.
The second half of the game was supposed to be a defining moment for the defending champions, but the Congolese refined their play and ended the second quarter in a dead heat; 18-18 against D’ Tigers.
Following their discovery of a stronger footing, better than D’ Tigers at this point, the Congolese throbbed the Nigerian side of the court upsetting the game which led to their victory over D’ Tigers 83-77.
Nonetheless, Nigeria has qualified for the quarter final stage with 5 points in Group A.
D’Tigers captain Ike Diogu was the top player for Nigeria on Sunday with 21points, while Ayodeji Akindele contributed 11 rebounds and Ikenne Iroegbu added seven assists.
Captain, Ike Diogu was the top player for Nigeria on Sunday with 21 points, while Ayodeji Akindele contributed 11 rebounds and Ikenne Iroegbu added seven assists.
D’ Tigers will battle Cameroon in one of the quarter finals games on Thursday.
I expect the outcome of the game not to be any different from the first leg of the Super Eagles vs Indomitable Lions of Congo football match up.
