  Nigerian striker, Cyril Dessers has vowed to work hard in other to get a recall to the Super Eagles after he was overlooked by Gernot Rohr for Nigeria’s 2021 AFCON qualifier matches against Sierra Leone on November 13, and 17, 2020. A disappointed Dessers revealed that he felt bad after missing out on the list, but it served as an eye-opener for him to work harder if he wants to dorn the Nigerian national team jersey.

The Genk of Belgium striker made his international debut for the 2019 AFCON bronze-medalists in a 1-1 friendly draw against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, after replacing team captain Ahmed Musa in the 72nd minute of the encounter. With little over 15 minutes on the pitch, Dessers might not have impressed coach Gernot Rohr enough to earn an invitation for the matches against Sierra Leone. Dessers, 25, will now have to be patient until 2021 for a chance to make his competitive debut for the three-time African champions.

‘It was nice to be on the score sheet again this weekend. I felt it’s been a long time coming for me and I hope to build on this goal in my subsequent matches. On not getting a call up for the National team for games against Sierra Leone, personally, I was not happy after knowing I did not make the cut. But then again, it shows I have to play more at club level and hopefully try to always be at my best week in week out.’ Cyril Dessers
