October 20, 2020, which has gone down in history as a day the Nigerian government made war on the citizens it swore to protect, has drawn the attention of the globe with disturbing images and videos on the internet. CNN’s documentary made certain revelations that have got the world talking and left many in shock over the fact that peaceful protesters were gunned down on the orders of the Nigerian government. First, the video revealed that the protests were peaceful and ended the debate on military involvement in the shooting. The military which has constantly denied going to the protest ground with live bullets and also claimed to have shot in the air were seen in the video departing their Bonny garrison to the protest site, directing shots in the air and directing more shots at the unarmed protesters who kept chanting #EndSARS and singing the Nigerian national anthem. Screams of ‘’they shot, they shot’’ and ‘’they have killed him’’ were heard in the video while the Nigerian military fired shots at protesters. The video also showed dead bodies and injured civilian protesters from the shots fired, rubbishing claims of the Nigerian military that no protesters were killed at the scene.

Amidst the chaos in the video is DJ Switch who live-streamed the video on Instagram, displaying live bullets shot at them by the army. CNN in the video disclosed that the bullets are live ammunition and are of mixed origins, tracing some of the bullets to Serbia which has been selling arms to the Nigerian government. The news agency in its findings stated that Serbia sold arms to Nigeria at least every year from 2005-2016. CNN also revealed in the video that they have reached out to some families of protesters that were shot dead but their corpse have not been found in what has been suspected as a clean sweep by Nigerian security agencies to avoid traces by investigative bodies. Elisha Sunday, who is brother to Victor Sunday who was killed during the shootings, is seen in the video telling CNN that his family is yet to recover the corpse of his brother which is seen lying dead in the documentary video. Further, CNN disclosed that they have contacted over 100 protesters and family members who revealed in the video that they were shot at by the military as one is seen showing injuries he sustained from the shots. The media powerhouse also revealed that some of the protesters were in hiding due to fear of the Nigerian government. The Nigerian army according to CNN refused to comment on their findings, while the Lagos State government noted that a judicial panel has been set up to investigate the events of October 20, that it will only comment after the panel has concluded the investigation.
