  American basketball side, Sacramento Kings, have secured the signature of Nigerian basketball star, Chimezie Metu. The General Manager of the team, Monte McNaira confirmed this information though details of the deal remain undisclosed.  Metu, 23, has been impressive with an average of 3.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 5.8 minutes per game out of 18 games during the 2019/2020 season. Also, Metu who is an early entrant out of the University of Southern California was the 49th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Over the course of 47 games in two seasons (2018-2020) with San Antonio Spurs, the Nigerian-American who made it to the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup final roster for Nigeria commands a career average of 2.3 points (.430 FG%, .767 FT%), 1.5 rebounds and 5.3 minutes per game. It remains unclear where Metu will fit into the frontcourt rotation of the Kings which already consist of Hassan Whiteside, Frank Kaminsky, Richaun Holmes, Nemanja Bjelica, and Marvin Bagley III. He will have to work his way into the team as the competition is really tight.

The Nigerian star who is set to wear the number 25 jersey for the Kings gained his First Team All-Pac-12 honours during his junior season at USC, and in the school’s history, he ranks as the third all-time in blocked shots.
