CHAN 2018: Well Done, Home Eagles!

From their last game, where they had shown Nigerians just how bad a horrible game could be, it definitely took a lot for their fans to hope they make it through to the quarter-finals as they played Equatorial Guinea. The ‘lacklustre’ squad have, without any iota of doubt, upped their game as they drummed Guinea out of the race to place in the quarter-finals, with a 3-1 win. The Home Eagles seemed like they were biting more than they could chew, through the first half of the game against Equatorial Guinea, despite being quick and quite active on the ball, it wasn’t enough to hold the Guinea boys back, as they started the match score counter, with a goal from Nsi Eyama, in the 40th minute. Throughout the remaining minutes of the first half, and in ten minutes into the second, they held their own against the Eagles, and I bet, they hoped they’d hold for much longer till the full-time whistle. It was a deal breaker, when the Eagles picked up the pace and showed them just how Eagles soar before the hour mark, as Anthony Okpotu levelled the score for Nigeria, through a stunning header off a cross from Osas Okoro. Dayo Ojo puts Nigeria in the lead, with a stunning goal in the 69th minute. This was just about enough for the Guinea boys to hope, but the Eagles were not done, as Rabiu Ali, sealed the deal with a penalty shot on goal, in the 81st minute. The Home Eagles came through for fans everywhere, as they finished the group race atop of every team in Group C with seven points from three games.
