Former Super Eagles and Wolves number 1 goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme has officially declared his retirement from football. After a year-long battle with leukemia, from which he is presently in remission, the 32-year made the announcement to retire from the game via his social media pages. His decision according to the goalkeeper was consequent on the advices he had received from doctors on his health moving forward.
“After advice from the doctors I have taken the decision to retire. It’s not a sad day for me but one to look back with fondness and joy for being able to live my dream. I just want to thank everyone at @wolves for there support over the years. We have rode the good and bad times together, and I’m great-full for being a part of the clubs history. I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone again soon and being back around the club and city !! Thank You!!!” — Ikeme wrote on instagram.

The show of love from footballers everywhere can bring tears to the eyes. It is more than evident that the Super Star and Nigeria’s hero really did make an impact on many  colleagues and fans alike during his playing years. Words would fail us to say how grateful we are for all the times you’ve stepped in and proven yourself the right man for the job. Thank You, Carl Ikeme!
