Nigerian football league defending champions, Enyimba FC are through to the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederations Cup after demolishing Ivorian side, San Pedro, 5-2 on Sunday, February 2, 2020. Two-time African champions, Enyimba, went into the game having it at the back of their minds that they must not lose to stand a chance of advancing into the knockout rounds of the competition. Abdulrahman Bashir and Victor Mbaoma gifted the visitors a 2-0 lead within the first three minutes of the encounter before Sherif Jimoh pulled one back for the hosts. A 25th minute strike from Augustine Oladapo meant the Peoples Elephants maintained a two-goal lead until the stroke of halftime when Irie Zan Bi struck to reduce the goal deficit to one after the first half ended with a 3-2 score line in favor of Enyimba. Mbaoma will strike again in the second half, before Stanley Dimgba completed the rout with a beauty to make it 5-2, a result which saw Enyimba qualify ahead of AC Paradou who equally defeated Hassania Agadir 3-0 in their last group game on Sunday.

Enugu Rangers’ Confederations Cup campaign ended on Sunday after a 1-1 draw against Al Masry. Prior the game, Rangers had been knocked out of the tournament despite a 1-0 victory over Pyramids FC in their previous game but was aiming for a win in their last group game. After just six minutes of play at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, a strike from Wadi gifted the Egyptians the lead in the first half before Ifeanyi George cancelled out the goal for the game to finish 1-1.
