The match which was originally scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria on January 6, was postponed due to the inability of the Nigeria Football Federation to obtain a COVID-19 waiver for the South Africans. Despite playing their second-leg away from home, Rivers United continued from where they stopped after winning the first-leg 2-0 in South Africa. The DSTV Premiership side’s hopes of overturning the scoreline were dashed in the 1st minute of the encounter after Godwin Aguda gifted the Nigerian side the lead to make the aggregate scoreline 3-0.

Aguda was not done with the South Africans yet as he went on to score his second goal of the encounter from the spot in the 33rd minute of the match, leaving the aggregate at 4-0. Celtic would start making plans for their flight back home in the 59th minute after Fortune Omoniwari made it 3-0, and 5-0 aggregate. Following this result, Rivers United will now prepare to square it off with fellow Nigerian league giants, Enyimba FC in the next round of the continental tournament.
