Sibi Gwar grabbed a brace in Aba to give Enyimba the advantage going into the return leg in a fortnight.
The two-time winners are aiming to win the coveted prize in African club football for the third time.
Kano Pillars, Nigeria’s other representative at the tournament, succumbed to a 3-1 defeat away to Congolese side, AS Vita in Kinshasa.
Rabiu Ali, who was part of the CHAN Super Eagles team that got to the Semi-finals, grabbed the lone goal.
