Nigerian Afro-Fusion singer Damini Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy, has been awarded the “African Artiste of the Year” at the just-concluded Vodafone Ghana Music Awards – the biggest annual entertainment event in Ghana. Bruna Boy succeeds Davido, who won the award at the 2018 edition, continuing the string of Nigerians standing tall as Africa’s finest music practitioners.
The awards held on Saturday 18th March at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Bruna Boy, the self acclaimed “African Giant”, rose to fame in 2012 after the release of the lead single “Like to Party”. The song got him the Best Pop award at the South South Music Awards in 2013. Three albums later, he is performing on some of the largest stages all over the world, from sold out shows in London, to Chochella; one of the biggest music festivals the world over. Burna is currently nominated as Black Entertainment Television (BET)’s Best International Act.
Among his many awards are:
- the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards’s Best New Act
- the Listener’s Choice
- Song of the Year
