Brazil has returned to the summit of World football after defeating European and World champions, Spain in the final of the Confederations Cup. Brazil produced a mesmeric display in front of a packed Maracana to claim their third consecutive Confederations Cup.
With the mammoth crowd solidly behind them, Brazil showed why they are the favourites to lift the World Cup next year by ending Spain’s 29-match unbeaten run. Fred scored twice but Neymar grabbed the headlines with a breathtaking goal just before half time.
Spain missed a glorious opportunity to pull one back from the spot but Sergio Ramos fired wide from 11metres. Things went from bad to worse for Spain when they were reduced to ten men. Gerrard Pique was given a straight red for hacking down Neymar, who was through on goal.
