Nwankwo-Kanu-e1400089992524   Ex-internationals and one time skipper of the national team, Super Eagles, Nwankwo Kanu and Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha have been unveiled as campaign ambassadors for Star Football, a campaign to lead and cheer the Super Eagles at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil with the hash tag, #ShineOnNigeria. The unveiling which took place in Ikeja, Lagos, saw the two football stars in a new television commercial of Star Football campaign; although both players were absent which the organisers, Star, say is due to other urgent engagements. Speaking on the choice of Kanu Nwankwo and Austin Okocha Mr Walter Drenthe said both players are not only heroes of the game, but a source of inspiration to millions of Nigerians. “With millions of Nigerians on Twitter and Facebook, we (Nigerians) will be cheering the Super Eagles on with the hash tag #ShineOnNigeria. Leading this campaign are Nigeria’s Nwankwo Kanu and Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha, two respected Ex-internationals are our ambassador going for the Star Football #ShineOnNigeria.” “The decision to engage Jay-Jay and Kanu is born out of the need to celebrate their achievement, which is very important, in the game. And you will all agree that Okocha and Kanu have not only made Nigeria proud in football, but they are the teams fans favourite and we are proud of them as Star Football #ShineOnNigeria ambassadors.”, the Marketing director of NBC said. He further added that with Nigerians cheering the Eagles on with the #ShineOnNigeria on social media platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, and the encouragement of both Okocha and Kanu, the Super Eagles will do well in the tournament. Both Kanu and Okocha had played for the Super Eagles of Nigeria at different editions of the FIFA world cup. While Okocha was at the USA 94, France 98 and Korea-Japan 2002 editions of the mundial, Kanu played at the France 98, Korea-Japan 2002 and South-Africa 2010 edition of the worlds biggest sporting event. The campaign will also ensure that Nigerians will watch all matches of the 2014 World cup live as it partners with pay TV, and Multi choice.
