Super Eagles of Nigeria defender, Leon Balogun, has completed a permanent move to English Championship side, Wigan Athletics, from English Premier League side, Brighton & Hove Albion. This information was revealed by the Seagulls (Brighton) as the 2019/2020 nears completion. Balogun’s new contract will see him stay with the Latics until the end of the 2019/2020 season, a deal which will see the 2019 African Cup of Nations bronze-medalist play his last game for the championship side against Fulham on July 21, 2020.

Limited playing opportunities at Brighton meant Balogun quit the EPL side after featuring just 12 times in two seasons and scored once against Crystal Palace in a 3-1 victory in December 2018. Brighton boss, Graham Potter hailed Balogun’s professionalism during his time at the club and noted that the loan move is best for the Super Eagles star.
“Leon has always been extremely professional and good to work with during my time at the club, but he was finding it hard to get the game time he would have liked. So the loan move to Wigan seemed to be a good move for everyone involved, and he has made a really positive impact there. We would like to thank him for his contribution over the last couple of years and we wish him all the best for the next chapter of his career.” Graham Potter
