Super Eagles of Nigeria central back, Leon Balogun, has expressed delight at joining English championship side, Wigan Athletic. A winter transfer deadline day switch saw the Nigerian move to the championship side on loan and has impressed so far, enjoying three win and three clean sheets, and has equally been involved in the club’s last five games that has seen Wigan unbeaten. Wigan’s impressive run of form lately has seen them rise to 19th on the league table ahead of this weekend’s all important tie against Luton Town.

So far it’s been brilliant. I had a good talk with the manager Paul Cook and I don’t have any regrets because it’s an amazing group.People in and around the club are great and there’s a real positive chemistry – it’s not what you might have thought given the league position when I joined. The confidence is high and at the moment we’re doing well. The results speak for themselves

Aside featuring for more than 2,000 minutes for Nigeria, Balogun has now played for seven league sides in England and Germany and is banking on his experience to help Wigan close off the season on a positive note.
I said to the lads that the focus had to be on ourselves and what we can control. I have quite a bit of experience and I’ve just tried to help as much as I felt appropriate…. It’s a really good group and I can’t emphasise that enough – the team just needed a little bit of momentum, and that’s what we have at the moment
