Dr. Ayotunde Coker, the Managing Director of Rack Centre, a state-of-the-art, Tier III Data collocation centre, has been elected the Secretary General of the African Data Centre Association (ADCA). The Nigerian who heads, Africa’s most connected data centre, was elected at the ADCA’s inaugural meeting held at the Datacloud Africa Conference in Marrakesh, Morocco. Coker is a seasoned technologist with over 30 years of experience in the ICT industry. In his many years as a technology executive, he has garnered international experience across Europe, USA, Asia and Africa as a consultant at Cap Gemini with global premier organisations, such as, ABN Amro Bank, UBS, JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch, Swiss Life and The Prudential. Prior to his return to Nigeria in 2009, Coker was the Chief Technology Officer for the United Kingdom Criminal Justice System, and CIO, UK Ministry of Justice. In 2016, he was voted Nigeria ICT Man of the Year, at the Beacon of ICT awards, and was also recently listed by the UK Data Economy Magazine, as one of the top 50 most influential in Data Centre, Cloud and Data in EMEA. Comprised of over 30 African Data Centre operators and stakeholders, the ADCA, will serve as a regulatory body for the African commercial data operator’s community — and also work towards propelling the growth of the data centre industry in the continent. Other elected members of the Pan African association are:
  • Fatoumata Sarr Dieng, Director of Wholesales at Sonatel, Senegal(Orange) as President;
  • Stephane Duproz of Data Centre Africa (Liquid Telecom) South Africa and Kenya,
  • Amine Kandil of N+ One, Morocco,
  • Dr Lawrence Nkala of Tel-One Zimbabwe as Vice President,
  • Paul Francois Cattier of Schneider Electric, Ivory Coast as Vice President,
  • Wouter Van Hulten of Paix Data Centre Ghana was elected as the Treasurer.
