The event, tagged ‘Valentine Basketball Programme Against Drug Abuse’, was held to call the attention of parents to the importance of keeping children away from the beguiling street life, which has consumed a huge number of children in rural areas today.

Several basketball Nigeria partnered with the Ayo Charity to train and educate the kids on the importance of living a life away from the streets, and someday contributing their due quota to national development.

Besides the valentine event, the technical director of the clinic, coach Awonuga Oladele Simon, said the basketball foundation also holds a special basketball clinic every three months to track the development of the kids in and out of school, and further keep them away from the streets.

Apart from basketball, we also create a platform to have a good working relationship with the children’s parents and teachers. The foundation is not interested in taking any child abroad to play basketball, but we allow international organisations that want to give the children scholarships in sports or education come to the camp and monitor the children and youths. Our goal is to raise talents in basketball and also build a society that has reliable children that will move the nation forward in future.
