To ensure that qualified architects are exposed to the construction industry, the Architectural Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), which was set up in 1969 in order  to regulate the training and practice of the Architectural profession in all its ramifications by the Architects (Registration, etc.) has appealed to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to post its graduates to construction firms, instead of schools. According to the Guardian,ARCON President, Aliyu Umar made the appeal at the 5th induction ceremony of 130 new members in Abuja. He said the appeal became necessary to enable qualified architects to be exposed to the construction industries, which is the practical aspect of the profession. Umar said that posting them to schools would have a negative effect on their skills and quality at the end of the mandatory one-year service. He suggested that architectural graduates should rather be assigned to serve in firms, where their skills would be tested and increased. The President further explained that such exposure would also prepare them for the final professional qualifications and induction as full members.   Feature image credit: students.com.ng
