  Apply for the 2025 edition of the Yale Drama Series Playwriting Competition if you are an emerging playwright seeking funds to advance your craft. The program is an annual international competition that is funded by the David Charles Horn Foundation. Winners are selected by preeminent playwrights.

The winner of the Yale Drama Series Playwriting competition will be awarded the $10,000 David Charles Horn Prize, a publication of the winning manuscript by Yale University Press, and a celebratory event.

To be eligible for the program:

  • Plays must be written in the English language.
  • Submissions are accepted from every part of the globe.
  • Applicants must submit original plays that are unpublished, with a minimum of 65 pages. Plays that are below 65 pages will not be accepted. Translations, children’s plays, and musicals will not be accepted.
  • The program is aimed at supporting emerging playwrights; previous winners are not advised to apply.

  • Playwrights can only make one submission per year.
  • A submitted play must not be under option, commissioned, or scheduled for publication at the time of submission.
  • Submissions must be typed, word-processed, and page-numbered.
