  The World Trade Organization (WTO) has announced the WTO Young Trade Leaders Program, an initiative for young people to understand its role and encourage international trade among the global youth population. The program aims to create a network of “Young Trade Leaders” across the globe.

Those between 18-30 years with a clear vision of global trade benefits should apply for the WTO Young Trade Leaders Program. Selected participants are expected to create new ideas and perspectives about the role of trade and the WTO in the world.

To be eligible for the program:

  1. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30.
  2. Applicants must be citizens of a WTO member nation.
  3. Applicants must not be personally affiliated with the WTO or have a family member who is affiliated with the WTO.
  4. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to write and speak English. Knowledge of a WTO working language (French or Spanish) is a plus.
  5. Applicants must understand the need for diplomacy, be willing to respect diverse perspectives, foster the understanding of trade issues and promote constructive dialogue.
  6. Applicants must be willing to fully participate throughout the one-year program (July 2024-June 2025).

Some of the benefits of participating in the program include:

  1. Gaining a greater understanding of the operation of the WTO and international trade.
  2. Publishing blogs, articles, podcasts, and social media content on topics that are related to trade.
  3. Opportunity to attend an in-person one-day training program at the WTO in Geneva.
  4. Contributing to and coordinating a session at the Public Forum 2024.
  5. Benefiting from already existing programs at the WTO.
  6. Advice and mentorship from the WTO secretariat.
  7. Receive support in your home country when organizing a WTO-related event.

How to apply for the program:

  1. Applicants should submit their application to YTL@wto.org with the following documents:
  2. CV (it must not be more than two pages)
  3. A 2-3 minute video in which candidates briefly introduce themselves, express their interest in the program, and explain the impact they hope to achieve as a Young Trade Leader.
  4. A written contribution (maximum of 300 words) answering the following question: What does trade mean for you?

The deadline for applications is July 5, 2024 (23:59 CET). After applications, the WTO will conduct a thorough review, and selected candidates will be invited for an interview in July 2024. Candidates will not receive remuneration but will be invited to travel to Geneva, Switzerland, to take part in the WTO Public Forum in September 2024.
