  The AWARD Leadership Program 2025 for Emerging African Women in Agricultural Sciences is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY) and implemented by the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD).

It is a program designed to “build a pool of capable, confident, influential young women scientists equipped to excel in agricultural sciences, thrive in leadership roles, and champion gender integration in agriculture.”

Since its launch in 2020, the program has drawn participants from diverse backgrounds in biophysical and social science agriculture disciplines and organizations, research organizations, academia, the private sector, and more. At least 75 young African women in science from 21 African countries have been reached with the program.

To be considered eligible for the program:

  • The applicant must be 35 years or younger during application.
  • The applicant must be from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, or Malawi.
  • You should have obtained at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in any agricultural science field from a reputable university.
  • The applicant must have at least five years of experience in the agricultural sector.
  • The applicant must be currently based in Africa and actively involved in agriculture-related work.
  • You must not be a fellow or laureate of any other fellowships offered by AWARD.
