  The African Union Centre for Disease Control has announced applications for the AU Public Health Scholarship. A fully funded 18-month master’s degree scholarship program at the University of the Witwatersrand School of Public Health, South Africa.

The AU Public Health Scholarship Program will cover the cost of tuition, accommodation, and living stipends for 10 selected applicants for the scholarship who will be studying in South Africa. The focus of the degree program is epidemiology. Applicants currently working in the National Public Health Institute (NPHI) of their respective countries will be given priority to strengthen and boost the capacity of the health workforce of the member states of the African Union.

  • Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
  • Field Epidemiology.
  • Infectious Disease Epidemiology.
  • Public Health Informatics.
  • Biostatistics and Implementation Science.

To be eligible for the program

  • The applicant must have a disciplinary background in any medical, veterinary science, dentistry, microbiology, statistics, computer science, demography, nutrition, and psychology.
  • The applicant must have obtained a four-year honours degree, an MBBCh, or other health-related degree.
  • Relevant work experience.
  • Proof of English proficiency for countries whose medium of communication is not English language.

Required documents for application include

  • Application form for admission into the University of Witwatersrand.
  • Written motivation letter detailing how the program benefits the applicant’s overall career goals.
  • A comprehensive CV that demonstrates a description of relevant work and research experience.
  • Two referee reports.
  • Certified copies of academic transcripts and certificates.
