The Rising Star Africa Prize was created in memory of Paul O’Brien and his exploits in encouraging excellence in science and education on the African continent. Winners will get a grant gift of £14,000 to support their research and a personal £1,000 gift.

To be considered eligible for the program:
- The program is open to African citizens.
- It is a program restricted to early-career scientists who obtained their PhD not more than 15 years ago (not including career breaks). Nominations will remain valid and will be considered through three nomination cycles by the award selection committee.
