The Internet Society Pulse Research Fellowship is a six-month program to support “researchers in conducting data-driven analysis or developing tools that contribute to an open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy Internet.”

The objectives of the program include:

  • Supporting the development of top-tier, original internet measurement research.
  • Promoting a community of researchers, data specialists, and network engineering experts, as well as journalists and policymakers, to help the growth of the internet.
  • The program aims to strengthen partnerships among global organizations working on research that is data-driven in understanding internet trends.
  • The program aims to develop new techniques or implement existing methodologies to strengthen data gathering, analysis, and visualization on the Pulse platform.
  • The program is also designed to explore interdisciplinary research topics related to creating a resilient, robust, and open internet.
  • Publication in high-profile conferences such as SIGMETRICS, ACM IMC, SIGCOMM, or CoNEXT.

Requirements for the Internet Society Pulse Research Fellowship:

  • It is open to students or researchers from every part of the globe who are interested in exploring the usage of state-of-the-art or novel internet.
  • The applicant must be an early-career researcher (graduate student, postdoc, junior faculty, and others conducting research outside an academic institution within 10 years since graduation).
  • The applicant must be affiliated with an academic or research institution.
  • The applicant must not be a prior fellow of the Pulse Research program.

Features of the program:

  • It is a six-month program comprising two cohorts. The first cohort starts in February 2025 and the second in June 2025.
  • Fellows can work remotely from any part of the globe.
  • Fellows will get a USD 17,000 stipend (including USD 2,000 for equipment/travel support).
  • Mentors will get USD 10,000 (including USD 2,000 in equipment/travel support).

The criteria for selection include:

  • The applicant’s proposal must be relevant to the Pulse focus areas.
  • The applicant must know internet measurement, policy, or data analysis/visualization, alongside experience relevant to the accomplishment of the proposed research.
  • The applicant must be willing to commit at least 25 hours weekly to the program.
  • Letter of support from supervisors.
  • The selection committee will comprise staff of Internet Society Pulse and alumni from the previous editions of the Pulse Research Fellow Program.
