  The Scholarships for Sustainable Development-Oriented Higher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa are committed to promoting, supporting, and strengthening sustainable development across the Sub-Saharan region through targeted scholarships.

Individuals pursuing careers in teaching and research at higher education institutions in the Sub-Saharan region will be empowered through these scholarships in order to prepare them for significant impact in their fields and communities. The Scholarships for Sustainable Development are available for graduate and postgraduate students from Sub-Saharan Africa who are interested in pursuing development-focused master’s or PhD studies in their home country (in-country scholarship) or in another Sub-Saharan country. Women and people from less privileged backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Please Note: In-country scholarships for students from South Africa are managed separately in cooperation with DAAD and NRF.

Scholarship Duration

  • Master’s Programs: Up to 2 years
  • PhD Programmes: Up to 3 years

Some of the benefits of the scholarships include

  • It is fully funded.
  • Selected fellows will get a monthly stipend.
  • Allowance for research and study.
  • Thesis publishing costs.
  • Payment of full tuition costs.
  • Additionally, in-region scholarship holders are eligible for travel allowance and health insurance.

  2. Masters in Seed Science and Technology
  3. Masters in molecular cell biology of infectious diseases

Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA):
  1. Master’s and PhD in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
  2. Benue State University Makurdi (BSUM):
  3. Master’s and PhD in Food Chemistry

Eastern Africa

Kenya

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT):
  1. Masters in Energy Technology, Soil, and Water Engineering
  2. PhD in Soil and Water Engineering
