Nigeria forward, Anthony Nwakaeme, has opened up concerning his choice to reject big money offers from China for a place with Turkish club, Trabzonspor.

The player had a very successful three-year run with former club HapoelBe’er Sheva, scoring 43 goals with 24 assists in 120 appearances. He won three successive league titles and the Isreali Cup twice.

It was his outstanding performance with Be’er Sheva that caught the attention of Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr and warranted his call to the Super Eagles squad for their 2018 World Cup qualifiers. Nwakaeme was an unused substitute until his debut against Algeria in November. However, his performance for the team didn’t earn him a place in Rohr’s final squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Regardless of being left out of the squad during the FIFA World Cup campaign, Nwakaeme is still quite hopeful for a chance to play for the Super Eagles yet again.

“Everything is not about money, there is also the possibility of staying in contention for a place with Nigeria. I am a very competitive person and I love to challenge myself. Trabzonspor has big ambitions and as a professional footballer this is what I need,” he told BBC Sport.
