The long awaited game of heroes for the departing Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, originally scheduled to hold at the Onikan Stadium, which is currently under maintenance, has been moved to Agege Stadium.
The match, which will feature prominent African legends against Naija legends, is geared at celebrating the sports accomplishments of the Akinwunmi Ambode administration of Lagos.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, one of the organizers of the match, Waidi Akanni, said the shift was due to the prolonged maintenance work going on at the Onikan Stadium.
“We really would have been happy to play the African Legends versus Naija Legends match for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at Onikan but we do not want to take any chance now that it is obvious it will not be ready. Agege Stadium is a better alternative” — Waidi Akanmi
The former chairman of Lagos State Football Association, also confirmed that air tickets have been sent out to all invited African legends for the game.
A portion of the precedes from the match will be donated to indigent children of former Nigerian internationals.
The Nigerian legends have appointed a three- man committee of Austin Eguavoen, Henry Nwosu and Joe Erico, to draw out a 20-man list of former legends, both old and new generation players, who would star for Nigeria at the Ambode legends game.
