All The Things a King of Boys Sequel Might Mean

Even before Kemi Adetiba announced that a teaser trailer for KOB 2 (King of Boys 2) is coming, rumours were already circulating. In September last year, Toni Tones (one of the lead characters in KOB and the actress that plays young Eniola Salami) even hinted that a King of Boys series might be in the works.

Gbemi Anthonia Adefuye AKA Toni Tones, suggested the series would be a prequel; a show about all the things that happened before the King of Boys drama we all watched last year. Apparently, the series will tell the backstory of Alhaja Eniola Salami’s life before the events in King of Boys. KOB the series has been commissioned, and we can hope to hear more soon. But what you really want to know about is the KOB sequel that Kemi Adetiba has confirmed. A few weeks ago, in January, Kemi Adetiba promised that a teaser trailer would be released soon. She called it the first trailer, so there will be more teasing.

King of Boys is a 2018 political drama that was written and directed by Kemi Adetiba. In the film, Sola Sobowale is Alhaja Eniola Salami, a ruthless businesswoman who has fought her way to the top. Alhaja has plans for a political career but begins to struggle on the way up as loyalists turn to competitors and friends become foes. King of Boys is the second film Kemi Adetiba has directed, her first film was The Wedding Party (a very successful debut) in 2016. 

King of Boys grossed 200 million naira in seven weeks and became the 4th highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time. In addition to a stunning reception and flattering reviews from Nigerian audiences, the film was nominated for eight awards at the Africa Movie Academy Awards last year. It won three of eight; Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Adesua Etomi-Wellington), Best Nigerian Film, and Best Actress in a Leading Role (Sola Sobowale).

We can’t wait to see what magic Kemi Adetiba will work with King Of Boys 2, we’ve collated a few guesses and predictions about what to expect:

1. A Come-back

We haven’t seen the last of Makanaki. Played by the Nigerian street rapper Reminisce, Makanaki was a fan favourite. Kemi hinted at his comeback when she tweeted;

“So, finally tackled the scene where Makanaki and Odogwu Malay meet (read as confront) each other for the first time in KOB 2.“

But when a fan asked about Makanaki’s death directly, Kemi dodged the question.

• A reveal

If Makanaki is coming back, then Odogwu Malay didn’t really kill him, right? Kemi Adetiba might be planning to smash a few of our assumptions about how King of Boys 2 ended. Or will the film tell us a few things about what happened before?

•  Sparks and Re-appearances

Some fans suspect that Eniola Salami isn’t really dead.  One blog makes a bold prediction:

“We are also predicting the return of Eniola Salami adopted daughter Kemi. We saw her get shot in the movie but we still don’t know what favour Kemi asked Tiger (the Bodyguard) to do which was not revealed in the movie. We predict that Kemi will come back and join forces with the inspector Shehu played by Sani MU’AZU to take down those after her mother and as we all know inspector Shehu lost his wife to cancer while trying to rescue Eniola. And we think they might just hit it off.”

Kemi Adetiba is hoping King of Boys 2 will be released before the end of the year, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
