Vice-President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the head of Nigerian delegation to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Mr. Seyi Akinwumi gave a speech to dissuade the public from believing rumor making the rounds that the Nigeria football governing body has been thrown in a chaotic power tussle.
Akinwunmi told journalists at Saint Petersburg, Russia on Tuesday that truly the NFF was going through an in-house administrative disagreement, but prior to Tuesday’s press conference the body had rectified the issues.
“The truth is that there is no crisis within the board of the NFF. As you would expect in a family, there may be issues, but the good thing is that we iron them out and we bond together as a family.
“Even on Monday, we all came together and watched the matches together at our hotel; there is no crisis. I don’t want to think some section of the media derives joy in reporting about crisis just because it sells.
“We are NFF and not Russia Football Federation and the issue of elections is not something we are concerned with at this World Cup; I’m surprised to hear that some persons are already campaigning but to who? I’m going to be part of those who are going to vote at the elections but nobody has campaigned to me here.
“Personally, I think this issue of elections in a World Cup year does not augur well for our football; but as I said, our focus is to ensure Super Eagles success in Russia and not about elections at all.”
