Nominees for the 2018 edition of the
Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) was announced over the weekend.
AMAA
According to entertainment executive and founder of the AMAAs,
Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, AMAA has established itself as the biggest and most credible jury-based awards for
African filmmakers and professionals in the motion picture industry, in the continent or in diaspora.
“It remains a fact that AMAA is the longest running Pan-African awards in the whole of Africa, Similar awards in film, music and virtual arts have come and gone. Since 2005 we have worked to keep and protect the integrity of the awards. This is why we can partner with Rwanda, a country where excellence and professionalism drive business and governance. The interesting thing about AMAA this year is that visitors especially Africans will not struggle to have visa as all visas will be processed on arrival.”
— Anyiam-Osigwe
The Africa Movie Academy Awards are presented annually in recognition of excellence among professionals working in, or non-African professionals who have contributed to, the African film industry. The objective of the AMAA is
honouring and promoting excellence in the African film industry as well as
uniting the African continent through arts and culture.
The awards were first held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on the 30th of May
2005. It has since held in Lagos and Abuja. This year, the awards will be held in Kigali, Rwanda as it did last year; this will be the second time the event will be holding outside Nigeria.
It is scheduled for
22nd September, 2018, at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre in Kigali.
