The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has opened applications for its 2026 Internship Program, designed to provide young people with valuable exposure to African trade finance and the Bank’s operations.

Program Overview
Afreximbank aims to broaden the understanding of African trade challenges and trade finance principles, particularly structured trade finance.
Selected interns will gain comprehensive knowledge of the Bank’s mandate and operational framework while contributing innovative perspectives to its work.
Who Can Apply?
The program welcomes:
- Nationals from Afreximbank member countries (full list available on the Bank’s website).
- Students of African heritage living in the diaspora.
- Non-African students are committed to Africa’s transformation in alignment with Afreximbank’s mission.
Note: Children of Afreximbank employees cannot participate.

Qualification Requirements
Eligible candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Status: Currently enrolled full-time in undergraduate or postgraduate programs at accredited institutions. Priority fields include economics, business administration, finance, accounting, social sciences, statistics, law, sciences, engineering, or related disciplines.
- Age: Between 20 and 32 years old during the application year.
- Language Skills: Proficient in English or French with working knowledge of the other. Arabic or Portuguese proficiency is advantageous.
- Selection is merit-based, attracting highly qualified applicants.
Financial Support Provided
While interns cover their own accommodation, meals, transportation, clothing, and insurance, Afreximbank provides:
- Round-trip airfare from the intern’s educational institution to the placement location (economy class, most direct route).
- Monthly tax-free stipend of USD 1,000.
- Housing allowance of USD 500 monthly (for those relocating from home countries).
- One week of hotel accommodation (bed and breakfast) during orientation.
- Airport transfers upon arrival and departure.
- Visa processing for the internship duration, if necessary.
Important Terms
- Internship duration: 3 to 6 months.
- Each candidate may intern only once.
- Hotel costs are non-refundable and cannot be converted to cash.
- Interns are not employees and receive no staff benefits.
- The internship does not guarantee future employment.
- Management may terminate the internship with one day’s notice for policy violations.
- Limited positions available; only successful applicants will be notified.

- Certified academic transcripts and certificates.
- Internship recommendation letter from your institution (specifying proposed internship period, maximum 6 months).
- Statement of Intent (one page maximum) explaining expected benefits from the program.
