Odion Ighalo has showed Nigerians his true super power yet again, as the Super Eagles edged Libya 3-2 in their African Cup of Nations qualifier, on Tuesday in Sfax, Tunisia.
A brace from Ighalo, and one goal from Ahmed Musa has put Nigeria atop the Group E table on 9 points from four (4) games.
In the first half, Nigeria led the game 2-0, courtesy goals from Ighalo and Musa. However, Libya’s Mohamed Zubya, reduced the lead in the 35th minute. The early minutes of the second half saw the Libyans pressure the Nigerian side of the pitch continuously, until they were rewarded with a goal.
At this point, it became anyone’s game — as the Super Eagles tried their best to return to the lead. However, it was time for the Mediterranean Knights to prove their own strength, as they managed to withstand the pressure into the final ten minutes of the game.
In the 81st minute, Ighalo completed his brace, returning Nigeria to the lead. Though the Libyans tried all they could to level things up, it was not enough to keep the Super Eagles from taking home the much needed win. Nigeria will now journey to face South Africa on 16th November 2018, while Seychelles will host Libya on the same day.
The next meeting of the group will be in March 2019, when Nigeria will take on Seychelles, while Libya will host South Africa in the group’s final fixtures.
