The Akure-born defender plays for Sunshine Stars in the Nigerian Premier League and was born on 16th August 1990.
He made his international debut for Nigeria in 2012 and has appeared in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
He was called up to Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. Keshi surprised everybody when he placed the defender in the centre of Eagles defence and pushed Efe Ambrose out on the right in Nigeria’s opening game against Burkina Faso. When he failed to clear Jonathan Pitroipa’s cutback pass, Alain Traore capitalised and scored the equaliser to earn a point for his side in the final minute of extra minute.
Despite that rare mistake, Oboabona has been a revelation at the tournament and Sunshine Stars would find it hard to hold on to the defender when this competition ends.
He has been a rock in the young Eagles defence, keeping former African footballer of the year, Didier Drogba quiet with Kenneth Omeruo in the Quarter-final.
He played every minute of his debut AFCON tournament and was rumored to have been the number one name pencilled down for the Sunday’s final.
His agility and alertness helped the Super Eagles keep the Burkina Faso team at bay at the finals, and prevented them from scoring to get the penalties shootouts they had been gunning for.
